In all of my years of coaching people on how to lose weight…one thing always amazes me. How little fiber people really eat. In this post, I’ll tell you all you need to know about Fiber – Your Missing Link to Weight Loss.
One of the reasons people feel hungry is because most of our diets are filled with simple carbohydrates that lack fiber and that make you want to binge shortly after eating them.
Your blood sugar rises and falls after a nutrient deficient meal, and you look for another thing to eat. Usually one that is made up of simple carbs that cause weight gain.
This is why it’s great to know that fibers not only keep you full, but they are also the exact food you need so that your body can eliminate toxins from your body in the form of feces. Yeah, I know…here we go, talking about poop!
What happens is, that if you have a bloated belly and are constipated ever, it’s usually because you lack sufficient fiber. Fiber is necessary to lose weight, have a flat belly, and ward off even some cancers!
You may be surprised when you start tallying up how much fiber you eat daily. I guarantee…you’re not eating enough.
Here are the guidelines, and a little more never hurts.
However, start slowly with the addition of fiber. Be sure to drink enough water to flush away what your body doesn’t need.
Women need approximately 25 grams of soluble and insoluble fiber daily, and men need about 35.
Below is a list of fiber-rich foods that are great sources.
- Chia and Flax seeds
- Split peas
- Chick Peas
- Lima Beans
- Barley and Brown Rice are just some of the many foods that are missing in most people’s diets.
